Book Review: Army of Fire

“Every story, every legend, even every lie has to begin with some grain of truth and I’m intent on finding out what that truth is.”

CHOOSE WISELY

Generations after a small group, the last group, of people settle on Planet Xon 9, soon-to-be 18 year old Ka learns she is part of a prophecy some don’t know, and those who do think of it as just a myth.

On Xon 9, everyone must choose an element to associate with for the rest of their lives. Water, Earth, Metal, Wood, and Fire. Water’s are wise, Wood’s are unwavering, Earth’s are nurturing, Metals brave, and Fire’s passionate. It not only puts them in categories for jobs and lifestyles, it changes their physical body, literally putting the element into their vains. We meet Ka, undecided right before Pronouncement, the ceremony where everyone of age chooses their element. After Pronouncement and choosing her life path, Ka learns that she isn’t like her fellow new elements. After talking to a Metal woman with the sight, she is sent on a journey to understand herself, and to save her friends and family.

I thought this was a great start to a promising series. If you’re a fan of Divergent, you will want to get your hands on it! The characters have great depth to them, and leaves the reader wanting to learn and understand more about them. Ka is relatable, and a strong protagonist. I was rooting for her, and spent a lot of time trying to figure out the mysteries that she was faced with.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for my honest review.
